This is a copy of our "adoption profile" letter:

Dear Birthmother,

We admire the strength and courage you have in making an adoption plan for your child and would love to get to know you better.  We realize you are going through a very difficult time right now, and respect you for doing what you feel is best for your child.   We met in college twelve years ago and have been married for over seven years.  About three years into our marriage, we decided we were ready to start our family.  We struggled with infertility for 3 years, but always knew our ultimate goal was to be parents.  We knew we would love and cherish any child who entered our family, whether by birth or adoption.  Adoption was the route that we felt God leading us to, and we are excited to meet the birth mother that will give us the ultimate gift.  We have so much love that we are waiting to give a child.  Our child will be a gift from a birthmother through the plans God has for the future.

About Us

Through the years of our marriage, our love and commitment to each other has grown deeply.  Our Christian faith has played a significant role in our relationship as we aim to live Christ centered lives.  Communication is very important to us, and we make a point to sit down together for dinner every night.  We are each other’s best friend and sincerely enjoy spending time together pursuing our various hobbies and interests.  In our free time we enjoy gardening, yard work, fixing up our little 1966 camper, and doing home projects.  We also enjoy spending time with friends and family, bicycling, camping, and going sailing on our sailboat.

Janine (by Jason)

Janine is loving, caring, and kind and absolutely loves kids.  She has worked as an accountant, but plans to be a stay at home mom, although she may take some part-time work when I can be at home.  In her free time, Janine enjoys gardening, scrap booking, baking and spending time with her nieces and nephews.  She enjoys providing good, fresh food from the garden, and also cans and freezes fruits and vegetables for eating over the winter months.  I know that Janine will be a good mother and I look forward to seeing her dream of having a child come true.  She has accumulated a large collection of children’s books and is anxious to read bedtime stories to our children.

Jason (by Janine)

Jason is loving, devoted, and supportive of anything I want to do.  In his job as a teacher and naturalist, Jason leads children in educational activities at an outdoor education center.  He truly enjoys helping children experience the wonders of nature, and I love to see Jason interact with children.  His personality makes children of all ages want to be around him.  Jason is a warm, fun-loving yet hard-working kind of guy.  He is constantly fixing things & looking for new projects, and is looking forward to planning and building a jungle gym.  In his free time he enjoys gardening, beekeeping, sailing, and just being outside.  I look forward to watching Jason pass on his knowledge and skills to our children.

Our Home & Neighborhood

We live in a farmhouse in the country, with 3 acres to run and play in.  There are many large trees to climb, with lots of shade to stay cool in the summer.  We also have a large barn with a loft that we plan to fix up as a play area for kids.  We love our yard and enjoy growing flowers and vegetables in the garden.  Right now, we have two cats, but plan on getting a dog and perhaps a few chickens, goats and sheep in the future.  Although we live in the country, we have a good number of neighbors on our street, many of whom we got to know at the annual ice cream social last summer.  There are people in our neighborhood from newly married to retired with grandchildren, and they are very friendly and accepting

Our Extended Family

Family is very important to both of us.  Jason’s parents have been married 43 years, and have 3 sons, a daughter, and one grandchild.  They own an educational farm in Pennsylvania where they grow pumpkins, apples, and have lots of animals.  Jason’s parents love children, and are eager to welcome a new grandchild.  Jason and his siblings try to see each other often and each year go on a ski trip together.

Janine’s parents had been married 39 years when her father passed away several years ago.  They lived in Illinois for 24 years, but recently her mom moved to Indiana to be closer to family.  Janine has 1 brother (married with 1 child) and 1 sister (married with 3 children).  Janine’s mom is excited about another grandchild, and has already starting buying things for the baby!

Our Hopes for the Future

We will be devoted to and support our child throughout his or her life.  We believe strongly in the importance of education, and will encourage a love of learning in our child so that he or she will have unlimited choices in life.  Because we live within 30 minutes of two cities, we have many opportunities to visit zoos and museums and go to concerts, sporting events, and other cultural activities.  As we look back on our childhoods, we think fondly of the traditions each of our families had, and are anxious to pass some of them on and start some of our own.

We admire you for deciding on adoption for your child and would like to get to know you better if feel that we are the right family for your child.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you make this decision.

Please feel free to contact us through our adoption agency.  When you call them, please let them know you are calling to make contact with Jason and Janine.
